Witney RFC Bowled Over by Sports Fund Help
The £100,000 Gigaclear Rural Sports Club Fund aims to support teams based in rural communities across the broadband company’s full fibre network, which spans 26 counties.
The club, who play their fixtures in Hailey Road, successfully applied to the fund to buy training equipment that will benefit players across the age ranges from youngsters to seniors.
Chairman Bob Fisk said: “Through its Rural Sports Club Fund, Gigaclear – and the fund’s ambassador Darren Gough – are proving to be great supporters of grassroots sports. Much needed mats, balls and tag belts will enable us to teach rugby across all age groups, which helps instil in the players the fundamentals of rugby at an early age, before there’s any contact. It’s an important stage in learning to play rugby.
Fund ambassador Darren Gough said: “Since launching the fund, it has gone from strength to strength, providing valuable support where it is needed most. It’s great to see so much kit and equipment being sent out to rural sports clubs such as Witney Rugby Club and I wish them every success. I believe the fund is helping make a difference to players now and to the rural sports teams of the future.”
