Life may be put on hold again with the most recent lockdown, but online streaming is only getting better. Here are some of the best TVs, streaming devices, and tablets to help you and your family make the most of it.

If you don’t have a smart TV with streaming hardware already built-in, start by getting yourself a streaming stick. The popular Chromecast has evolved into Chromecast with Google TV (£60), now providing a remote control. But if remote controls are already a bit old fashioned for you, why not try the Amazon Fire TV Cube (£69), which is operated using Alexa voice commands. Then there’s the Roku Streaming Stick Plus (£50), which is cheaper than both of those options and just as good.

Now for the most important bit – a first-rate TV. If you want to splash out, the Sony A9B (48-inch screen, £1,799) has won plaudits for the picture performance of its OLED screen and the depth of sound. For a great mid-range option, check out the Panasonic GX800 (40-inch screen, around £500), which comes with Dolby Atmos sound. For 4K TV on a budget, our pick of the bunch is the Samsung TU7100 (43-inch screen, £349).

To avoid arguments over what you’re watching, it’s handy to have a second viewing device. The iPad (10.2-inch screen, £329) has been a firm favourite with tech fans for more than a decade and it also has a smart keyboard. An Amazon Fire HD (10.2-inch screen, £149) will let you watch TV and movies in full HD for half the price of the iPad. If you want to go for a high-end laptop, the Dell XPS (15.6-inch screen, £1,619)  is widely considered to be among the best for watching TV and movies.
