If you’re looking for a great value home security upgrade, then it’s hard to beat the Ring Video Doorbell Wired, which costs just £50 and sends Motion Detection alerts straight to your phone. You could also add a Floodlight Cam Wired Plus (£180), which will shine two bright 2000 Lumen lights when it detects motion, or sound its 105 dB alarm to scare off intruders. Remember, Amazon's Black Friday sale always throws up some Ring deals, so wait till 26th November for the bargains.

While Ring’s products are great, you have to pay a subscription in order to store and share videos. Netatmo’s equivalents are pricier, but there’s no ongoing fee as they store footage on an SD card and Dropbox. Plus, they work with Amazon, Apple and Google Home protocols, and they look great as they were designed by Philippe Starck. Netatmo's Smart Video Doorbell is £220, while the Smart Outdoor Camera & Floodlight is £190.

If you want to protect your home even further, both Ring and Netatmo also sell door and window sensors, which will trigger an alarm or alert if they’re tripped. They also offer smart smoke alarms, so you’ll be alerted if there’s a fire no matter where you are in the world.

If you don’t want to splash out on new security gear, there’s thankfully a security feature built right into your Gigaclear router. As long as you have two or more nodes, Linksys Aware can use WiFi signals to detect motion in your home. It costs £24.99/year or £2.99/month, and there’s a 3-month free trial available via the Linksys app.
